Holy Stone RC Quadcopter Drone with HD Camera Review

One of the most popular beginner models is the Holy Stone RC Quadcopter Drone with HD Camera. With flying features that enable steady flying, you can see why.

Specs:

  • 720P HD camera
  • 2.4Ghz 6 Axis Gyro 4 Channel
  • LED lights
  • Flying time: 7-10 Minutes
  • Range approx 300 feet / 100 yards
  • Ages 14+

Build:

Great durability, this drone can definitely handle a few crashes.

We recommend using the protection frames to keep the propellers guarded, especially for beginners. Landing skids are also provided for softer landings, they basically protect the drone from hitting the ground and getting damaged.

Changing the battery can be a little bit fidgety but is required if you want to keep flying. This drone kit comes with two batteries so when one is empty you can change it to a charged one and keep flying.

Battery charging time is approximately 80 minutes, which seems long but a full battery will give you up to 10 minutes of flight time.

Flying:

Easily do flips with the One Key 360°. This function allows for continuous flipping which, let’s be honest, looks really cool. Beginners will can practice controlling the drone with the Altitude Hold or hover function. This lets the drone hover at whatever height it’s at and is easier to control. Hovering allows you to take better photos and videos too. There is also One Key Return, so the drone can safely return to you, a similar function to the mini drone model. Remote control range is impressive at about 100 yards.

The controller can be used in left or right handed mode depending on your preference. The small monitor displays battery status, speed percentage, throttle percentage and if you are in video record mode.

If flying at high speed for quite a few minutes, the motor can become quite warm. Let the drone cool down to avoid damaging the motor.

Best flown in calm conditions, avoid flying in the wind. Drones, in general, are harder to fly in medium to high winds, their lightweight frames can be easily carried away.

HD Camera:

The 720P HD camera works best in Altitude Hold or hover mode. Photo capture quality is decent and the angle of the lens gives you more depth of field than a regular camera. Video recording can sometimes have a wobble effect when the drone is doing some tricky maneuvers but overall is pretty good.

Take a look at the drone being flown in the video below.

Final Thoughts:

Great drone for beginners and sufficient for intermediate level. Durable with sophisticated features to ensure stable flying for video and photos.
